Think it’s unfair that your bedtime is earlier than your older siblings’? Well its all for good reason. A formal research experiment has released interesting results regarding how much sleep we need per night and it is based on our age.

This is the first time a professional organisation has developed sleep recommendations based on age. The results are below:

  • Newborns (0-3 months) need a recommended 14-17 hours of sleep per night.
  • Infants (4-11 months) need a recommended 12-15 hours of sleep per night.
  • Toddlers (1-2 years old) need a recommended 11-14 hours of sleep per night.
  • Preschoolers (3-5 years old) need a recommended 10-13 hours of sleep per night.
  • School-Age Children (6-13 years old) need a recommended 9-11 hours of sleep per night.
  • Teenagers (14-17 years old) need a recommended 8-10 hours of sleep per night.
  • Young Adults (18-25 years old) need a recommended 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
  • Adults (26-64 years old) need a recommended  7-9 hours of sleep per night.
  • Older Adults (65+ years old) need a recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
