A 1 year old girl who fell ill on a sailboat heading around the world, was rescued by a U.S. Navy warship.

The U.S. Coast Guard received a satellite ping for help regarding a sick child on board a disabled 36 foot sailboat attempting to circle the world.

Boat owners, Eric and Charlotte Kaufman and their daughters aged 1 and 3, signalled for help when their youngest child developed a fever and rash covering most of her body.

With the child not responding to medications and the boat taking on water every time the motor was turned on, the California Air National Guard dispatched a team of rescuers.

The team parachuted into the water to reach the boat and were able to stabilize the 1 year old.

Not realizing the trouble with the sailboat, the team pointed the family towards Mexico.

They stayed on board the boat to keep watch over the child until the Navy ship arrived to transport the family to shore.
