New Zealand bus safety standards are in the spotlight after two serious bus crashes in less than a week.
Questions have been raised over the age of our buses, and whether seatbelts should become compulsory on coaches and buses.
Road safety specialist Peter Sheppard said that adding seat belts to buses is a non-brainer.
“Keeping them restrained would save lives, most definitely, and there are bags of research on this.”
He says that the practice is very common in Europe.
What do you think? Should we make seat belts compulsory on buses?

  1. Seatbelts won’t stop them from crashing but if the bus does have an accident then maybe it could keep them safer. So definitely a yes to seatbelts on buses.

  2. I think it is a good idea for seat belts because it would save our lives when the buses crashes.

  3. I think having seatbelts on busses would be annoying and people just need to not have crashes.

  4. I understand where you are coming from, but will seat belts really make a difference if a bus crashes.

  5. no because if we put seat belts on buses then yes we would be safe but people have to be places and if we put seat belts on the buses people will have a hard time getting on and off the bus in a timely fashion.

  6. Why are people saying seatbelts wont stop crashes. Yes, it wont lower crashes, but It will lower injury. What if you got in a crash on a bus and went flying into the windshield. That wouldnt happen if you had seatbelts on.

  7. Seatbelts won’t do anything… you really think the cool kids at the back of the bus are gonna use seatbelts?

  8. IF YOU MAKE SEATBELTS TIME WILL GO SLOWER AND IT WOULD BE MORE DIFFICULT TO GET ON AND OFF IN TIME!

  9. We should have seat belts if it helps or not if there is a crash the child wouldnt go flinging in the air they would stay put

  10. the seatbelts won’t stop them from crashing it would probably make it worse because you will not be able to move as much

  11. i think no because if the bus does crash it will be hard to move around to safety like if the window next to you breaks you cant get away from it fast enough

  12. i do think this is a good idea but it wont stop people from crashing. I’ve actually never known why buses don’t have seat-belts its most likely better for buses to have seat-belts though.

  13. I think that you can have seat belts on a bus but you should not have to wear one if you don’t want.

  14. I DEFINITELY think that there should be seat belts on buses. If it means that bus trips are going to be safer…then definitely!
