Former world motor racing champion Michael Schumacher has come out of a coma and been transferred to a hospital in Switzerland.

Schumacher had been placed in a coma by doctors following a skiing accident on the 29th December.

Doctors have indicated that he is along way from being well and he faces a long stay in hospital as he rehabilitates.

The seven-time world champion underwent two operations to remove life-threatening blood clots after his freak accident.

His family remain close by his side and will help him through his time in hospital.
