A Russian athlete almost stole New Zealand’s first Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The sly switch almost went down as the Kiwi rowers Grace Prendergast and Kerri Gowler were being given their gold medals for winning the women’s pair rowing final.

When the silver medals were being awarded, one of the Russian athletes grabbed the gold medal right before her teammate reminded her that it wasn’t hers.

She then suddenly reached out for the silver.

Luckily it was all a funny mix up and the Russian rowers had a good laugh.
