Scientists have struggled in the past to research the majestic Emperor Penguin but have now come up with a unique way to perform this task.

A remote-controlled vehicle which looks like a penguin chick is being used to get up close and and personal with the birds.

Emperor penguins are shy so it is difficult to get close to the animals. But the robo-penguin has solved this issue as it can get closer to the penguins than humans ever could.

It means the penguins can be observed in their completely natural habitat.

Experts from the National Centre for Scientific Research in Strasbourg say the unusual approach provides “a less invasive and stressful way to collect data on these species”.
