Kiwi Alice Robinson has won a gold medal in the women’s World Cup giant slalom in Lenzerheide.

The event was the last of the season and Robinson’s fast second run denied Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin a 70th career victory.

Shiffrin led after the first leg with Robinson fourth position. With 0.77s to make up, the 19-year-old produced the day’s fastest run to beat the American by 0.28s.

The result is Robinson’s third World Cup victory and her first for this season.

“I’m really excited to be able to finish it like this,” Robinson said after the event.

Slovenia’s Meta Hrovat finished third.
