A trial in England is testing the use of roads which charge electric cars as they drive along them.

The plan is to increase the range of electric cars on the roads by offering a more efficient way of recharging. Currently, the battery life of electric cars does not get drivers very far, which means long distance trips are often slowed down by frequent and lengthy recharges.

During the trial, electric cars will be fitted with wireless technology and special equipment will be installed underneath the roads. Together these transmitters will create the voltage needed to charge the car while it is moving.
