Ferry operator Fullers has admitted to dumping raw sewage into the Hauraki Gulf near the Auckland CBD.
According to a company spokesma,n the company has had to dump sewage into the ocean when ferries have been full. This is despite a brand new $400,000 disposal system installed – at ratepayers’ expense – at the Auckland ferry terminal.
At this stage it is not known how often the company has dumped sewage but investigators are looking into the problem.
Ms Boag, the spokesperson said that “the occasions where they have pumped out at sea have tended to be only on really busy trips during summer, when they have a full ferry and they have got an overload.”

The problem seems to be on the smaller vessels  and at this stage specifically on the Waiheke Island boat.
