An owl in an Australian zoo made a dramatic escape during a free flight show.

Sooty owl Oscar took off midway through his performance in Adelaide Zoo.

He “hung around” in nearby trees for awhile before disappearing.

Zoo staff have conducted a dawn-to-dusk search for the 10-year-old bird, but have yet to find him.

His keepers have asked people to keep an eye out for him, as he’s not familiar with Adelaide having arrived from Cairns Tropical Zoo last year.

The zoo says they will leave his cage unlocked in case he decides to return after his adventure.

  2. Well, at least it’s free. My thoughts are that the owl liked it much better in ‘Cairns Tropical Zoo’. I feel happy for it. Be free birdy! c:
