A group of protesters has been camping outside Parliament.

The group are protesting around a range of issues including vaccinations and Covid lockdowns.

Police have been called into ensure the safety of all people and so far just over 100 people had been arrested.

In a statement on Friday, Wellington District Commander Superintendent Corrie Parnell said police were continuing to monitor the protest activity at Parliament grounds.

Police have been trying to move the protesters on. Parliament Speaker Trevor Mallard said that the sprinkler system has been turned on and will remain on until they leave.

Police said this afternoon that misinformation and a “range of different causes and motivations” are making it difficult to resolve the situation with protesters.
