Prime Minister announces engagement

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford have announced their engagement.

A media spokesperson said the pair got engaged in Mahia over the Easter break.

Mr Gayford and Ms Ardern first met at an awards event in 2012.

As expected numerous people around New Zealand have congratulated the pair.

National leader Simon Bridges has tweeted that he and his wife Natalie, extend their ‘congratulations to the PM and Clarke on their engagement’. auckland Mayor Phil Goff also tweeted his excitement.

Mr Gayford is a television personality who is currently presenting a fishing documentary show.
