Work on a million dollar version of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre has begun in Auckland.
The pop-up theatre will celebrate the 400-year anniversary of the Shakespeare’s death and take about six weeks to constuct.
It’s a full-scale working replica of Shakespeare’s famous Globe Theatre, with the capacity for a 900-strong audience and a stage which takes up near half the floor space, on which actors will play to 360 degrees.
The theatre will be home to the Shakespeare’s most popular works; Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night for a limited season, starting February 19 and 20 respectively.
