Wellington Phoenix have drawn their season opener against Adelaide in Wellington.

The Phoenix played with 10 men for 65 minutes after Brazilian playmaker Yan Sasse was red-carded midway through the first half. Wellington held on for the rest of the first half keeping the game scoreless into the break.

Despite being down to 10 men the Phoenix started the second half better and Ben Waine put them in front in the 75th minute.

Adelaide United equalised two minutes into stoppage time to snatch a 1-1 draw and steal the 3 points from the Phoenix.

The Wellington Phoenix will return to Sky Stadium next Sunday to host the Central Coast Mariners.
