Angie Petty finished in fourth place in her 800m heat at the world athletic champs in Beijing to qualify for the semi-finals.
Petty led for much of her race but the other runners came home strong on the finish line. The first three runners from each of the six heats advance to the semis. The other six runners are made up from the remaining six fastest qualifiers.
Petty ran 2:00.62, to get through to the next round as the fourth fastest of the six qualifiers who finished outside the top three.
With the world champs coming up soon, Petty is hitting form. She ran the seventh fastest time of the year and recently won the 800m title at the World University Games where she ran 1:59.06.
