Martin Middle School in North Carolina, USA has introduced pedal power into their classrooms to get pupils to focus more.  Bike pedals have been put under the desks as a way to divert students energy.

Bethany Lambeth who teaches maths at the school  said it has led to a significant increase in their performance and grades.

“Because students are sitting still all day long they start to get restless and start tapping their desks and their feet are moving about,” she said.

Having the quiet bike pedals under the desks allow students to use up that energy, and at the same time focus on class.

What you do guys think?  Should we bring this to New Zealand?

  1. We shouldn’t bring it to New Zealand because kids shouldn’t be forced to do things like this.

  2. That’s weird…But then they don”t had to have playtime, because all there energy has been used up….I don”t think that we should bring it here….I LOVE PLAYTIME.

  3. YES! I NEED THAT KIND OF THING BECAUSE I OFTEN FIND MYSELF BEING RESTLESS! SO PEOPLE! DO AGREE WITH ME?

  4. Oh no! Plz don’t bring it to NZ!! Imagine how much moaning there would be if everyone’s legs were tired… Then people would focus on the moaning instead of the learning…. SO I GUESS THEY GET DISTRACTED EITHER WAY!!

  5. we should not bring them because half of the time they will be doing work so the will be concentrated on there work

  6. no! It’s not a good idea to bring this to our school! Mostly because we will not get a good supply of power! What if people get so pumped out that they seep?
