Day 14 of the Paris 2024 Olympics was thrilling for New Zealand, with athletes competing in shot put, kayaking, cycling, artistic swimming, and golf.

Silver for Maddi Wesche:

Maddi Wesche won a silver medal in the women’s shot put with a personal best of 19.86 meters. The gold medal went to Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye, who threw 20.00 meters on her final attempt.

Artistic Swimming:

In artistic swimming, Eva Morris and Nina Brown delivered a solid performance in their technical routine, earning a total score of 188.0901. Their routine included a difficulty score of 30.750, an elements score of 112.6401, and an artistic impression score of 75.4500.

Cycling:

Ellesse Andrews made waves in cycling by advancing to the Women’s Sprint 1/8 Final. She set a new New Zealand record with a qualifying time of 10.108 seconds. Meanwhile, Shaane Fulton moved through to the 1/16 Final after winning her second chance repechage.

Lydia Ko Golfing:

Lydia Ko continues to impress in golf, entering the final round tied for first place. She finished the day at four under par, leaving her nine under par for the tournament so far. Bryony Botha and Emily Shearman finished eighth in the 30km Madison race, with Italy taking gold, Great Britain silver, and the Netherlands bronze.

GOLD for Carrington and Hoskin:

A highlight of the day was Dame Lisa Carrington and Alicia Hoskin winning gold in the Kayak Double (K2) 500m final. The pair led from the first stroke and finished with a commanding 2.11-second lead over their competitors, a significant margin in this sport. One of the Hungarian teams and Germany tied for third place, showcasing the level of competition.

The New Zealand team showed incredible skill and determination, making Day 14 a memorable one at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
