Welcome to the Kiwi Kids News daily round up of the Tokyo Olympic Games. These Olympics will see round 11,000 athletes from 205 nations competing in the 339 events on offer, across 33 sports. New Zealand has a team of 211 athletes competing.

KIWI ATHLETES IN ACTION – 27th July

Sailing
Our Sailing group had a big day. It started off with the women’s team finishing 16th with 16 points. In race 2 we got 22 points but got disqualified. After that, we finished 5th with 5 points.
Now it is onto the men’s. For laser men’s we finished 16th with 16 points. Then in race 5, we got 14th with 14 points. 6th race we got 3rd with 3 points. For the 7th race, we finished 12th with 12 points. 8th race we finished 10th with 10 points. 9th and final race of the day we got 12th with 12 points.
Swiming
Our swimmer Erika Fairweather finished 8th in her 200m semifinal. She raced a 1:59.14. We also had Zac Ried in the 800 meter who finished 1st in his heat but wasn’t quick enough to go into the finals.
Rugby sevens.
Our Rugby sevens team had a 14-12 win against Australia. This means that we qualify first in our group. In the quarter-finals, we had a win 21-10 against Canada. Tomorrow we play in the finals for a medal against Great Britain.
Triathlon
Our women went well in the triathlon. We had Nicole van der Kaay finish 29th with a time of 2:03.26. We had Ainsley Thorpe who didn’t finish as she crashed on the bike.
Hockey
Our men’s hockey team had a 2-2 draw against Korea. Nick Wilson and Sam lane scored the goals.
Football
Our Women’s football team had a 2-0 loss against Sweden. This means that the women’s football team is out of the Olympics.
Canoe slalim
Luuka Jones finished 5th in the semi-finals so she made it to the finals. In the finals, she came 6th and went well throughout the Olympics.
Boxing
Our boxer nearly got his ear bitten off in a win against Moroccan Youness Baalla. However, he won the bout with a 5-0 score.
