Mail to New Zealand houses will be delivered  just three days a week from the middle of 2015.
New Zealand Post made the announcement as they respond to the rise of smartphones and the decline of letters.
Currently the post is delivered six days and it is thoughts that the reduced delivery days will result in huge job losses.
From June 2015, New Zealand Post will be required to deliver mail just three days a week in urban areas and five days a week in rural areas. About 12 percent of customers live in rural areas.
Mail volumes in the nation of 4.5 million people have dropped by 1/4  in the last decade and the decline appears to be accelerating.
