New Zealand voters are currently taking part in a citizens initiated referendum.
Voting papers for the referendum start arriving in letterboxes around the country late last week.
A referendum is when an entire country get to answer a specific question.
For this referendum the question is: ‘Do you support the Government selling up to 49% of Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power, Genesis Power, Solid Energy and Air New Zealand?’
Despite the referendum, the Government has already sold part of its stake in the Mighty River Power and Meridian Energy and Air New Zealand.
The referendum was required under law after the Labour and Greens-led Keep Our Assets coalition secured 327,224 signatures in a petition this year.
Voting closes on December 13.
