New Zealand’s population is edging closer towards the 5,000,000 milestone.
Latest figures from Stats New Zealand shows the population grew 1.9 per cent last year.
It is estimated the residential population reached 4,885,000 in June this year.
At this stage there is no exact time when our population will click over the 5 million mark but experts suggest it could be in 2019.
Because New Zealand is a relatively small country migration, people coming to live here, is the main way our population grows. We get around 30,000 a year coming to our country.
The statistics say that an average age of the population is also going up.
