New Zealand may move to a new ten year passport rather than the current five years.
A petition has been put forward by Kyle Lockwood  because many people lived overseas and had to pay exorbitant fees to transfer visas in one passport to a new one every five years.
Most other countries have passports that last for five years.
However, it is believed that having a 5 year passport increases the security at New Zealand’s borders as it makes it harder to forge.
The committee has been put together to consider the petition and make a recommendation to Parliament.
The Labour Party says it would return to 10-year passports if it is elected to Government later this year.
