New Zealand’s tenth Great Walk, the Paparoa Track, has been officially opened.

The new 55km track crosses the Paparoa Range and will eventually link to a Pike 29 Memorial Track which is still under construction.

This walk is the first new Great Walk to open in 30 years.

Hundreds of West Coast locals gathered to celebrate the milestone.

The new track is three days long and is a dual mountain-biking and walking track.

The $15 million cost paid for two 20 bunk huts and four suspension bridges.

Eight and a half thousand people are expected to walk or bike it each year.
