Eleven new Emporer Penguin colonies have been found in Antarctica.

The emperor penguin is the largest penguin species. The new colonies have been discovered in Antarctica using special satellite technology.

The find now means the total number of colonies is 61. This means there about half a million emperor penguins altogether.

As the places where these birds live are very cold and far away, so it’s difficult to study them and see how they’re doing.

Scientists now use special satellite technology to help spot the birds from above.
