Netball has been the big winner at the 2020 Halberg Awards.
The Silver Ferns won Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, the Leadership Award and also the Supreme Award at the 57th edition of New Zealand’s sports awards.
It was no surprise they won Team of the Year. The Netball team was triumphant at the World Champs in 2019.
Coach Dame Noeline Taurua won both the Coach of the Year and the Leadership award, turned the team around in just 11months before the World Champs.
Taurua said the Ferns had a great year in 2019, culminating in the fourth-ranked side beating the defending champions, Australia, by a single goal in the final of the world champs in Manchester in July.
In other categories, mixed Martial Arts fighter Israel Adesanya won the Sportsman of the Year title after claiming the UFC middleweight world title.
Canoe sprint star Lisa Carrington won the Sportswoman of the Year award. It is the fourth straight year she has claimed this title.
Swimmer Sophie Pascoe, a six-time Halberg winner, won the Para athlete or team category.
Alpine ski racer Alice Robinson,18, won the Emerging Talent award after her victory in the giant slalom in Solden, Austria, last year.
