A new national ticketing system for public transport is coming to New Zealand.

The result will be one type of ticket covering bus, train and ferry transport across 13 regions.

The new system will cost $1.3billion to set up. It will be set up by a company called Cubic.

They have completed huge ticketing projects including New York, London, and Australian cities.

Cubic told RNZ it would implement all security and privacy requirements demanded by its contract with Waka Kotahi.
