Mystery seed packets have been turning up in people’s mailboxes around the world.

Last week US agriculture officials issued warnings about the spate of “suspicious, unsolicited” seeds being delivered. Apparently the seeds have been sent from China.

The seeds have been delivered to people in New Zealand, Canada, Europe and the United States.

Marked as ‘earrings’ the seeds have sparked biosecurity concerns and global investigations into origins.

Recipients have been asked not to plant the seeds as the origin of the seeds are found.

The most likely explanation is that the seeds are a way for companies to create fake reviews, boosting their businesses.
