Chinese New Year is the most important Chinese Holiday and tradition in China.

This year, Chinese New Year took place on the 31st of January, and millions of people across Asia and the rest of the world welcomed in the traditional holiday.

Due to air pollution in Beijing, there was a plea by the government for people to set off fewer fireworks this year.

However this request was not taken on board and Beijing marked the start of the Year of the Snake with amazing midnight firework displays.

Chinese New Year is the only holiday for many Chinese people and so many took the time to go away. About half of Beijing’s population of 20 million left the city to celebrate the holiday.

According to the Chinese calendar 2014 is the year of the horse.
