In Central America near the capital of Nicaragua, a small meteorite has landed. Big enough however to cause a 12 metre wide crater and a five metre deep hole.

A noisy bang and shaking of the ground alerted people of the meteorite landing near an airport on Saturday. The crater was discovered near the international airport and air force base in Managua within a wooded area.

It is thought it may have broken off an asteroid which was passing close to Earth at the time. Experts are looking into the meteorite landing to confirm whether this is indeed the case.

Luckily the meteorite landed where no one lives and so no one was hurt.

  1. It would be a small one but for the crater to be big,it would have been traveling over the speed of sound (for the bang).
