Malaysia elects world’s oldest leader

Mahathir Mohamad has become the world’s oldest elected leader at the age of 92!

He is the new Prime Minister of Malaysia.

In his historic win he has beaten the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, which has been in power since independence in 1957.

Mahathir  used to be Prime Minister of  Malaysia from 1981 to 2003.  Back then he stood for the Barisan Nasional Party, but has since changed sides.

 

Official results showed that Mahathir’s coalition won 113 seats, one more than the number required to rule.
