Voting for the local body elections has started around the country.
Most voters around New Zealand will have received their voting papers via post and can start voting when they wish.
All voters will be able to vote for their mayor, their new councilors and also people to sit on the District Health Board.
These elections are called Local Body elections and they play an important part in our community.
The people that are elected decide on the best way to spend money within our towns and cities.
They decide things like how much to charge for rates and how much to spend on roads, infrastructure and local events.
