Liz Truss has been announced as the new Prime Minster of the United Kingdom.
Truss won the Conservative leadership vote against Rishi Sunak and will start her new job on Wednesday.
She won the leadership with 81,326 votes compared to her opponent’s total of 60,399 votes.
Truss will become prime minister when she visits the Queen in Balmoral for an invitation to form her UK government.
Following the result, Truss tweeted saying she was honoured to be elected leader. Then in a short speech after the announcement, she pledged to follow through on her promises to voters, saying the Tory party needed to show it could deliver over the next two years.
Boris Johnson will remain in office until the transfer of power is complete.
