New Zealand’s Shane van Gisbergen has won the Australian Supercars Bathurst 1000.

It is his first victory at the iconic Australian race.

As the race wore on van Gisbergen and co-driver Garth Tander battled it out with pole-sitting combination Cameron Waters and Will Davison.

The race went smoothly until the last 10 laps when numerous safety cars were called for crashes.

One of the crashes happened 3 laps from the end.

This meant it was down to a short sprint to find the winner of the Peter Brock Trophy. Fortunately, it was van Gisbergen who hung on, sealing the deal by twice setting the fastest lap of the race straight after the restart.

It capped an outstanding performance in his 14th start at Mount Panorama, having twice been runner-up.
