Kiwi Kids News Daily – 4th May

Today is Monday the 4th May – May the 4th be with you!

In our learning today we are going to start a two-week-long piece of work around our amazing country. We are creating a Tour of Aotearoa. Watch the video below and then read the instructions.

Our task over the next two weeks is to complete a 10 Day Tour of New Zealand. Each day we are going to visit a new town or city. Your learnig tasks (reading, writing and maths) will relate to that place or region.

As we work through the tasks below you will need to add where we go on your Map of New Zealand. We have created a booklet that you can print off and add to daily (CLICK HERE). If you don’t have a printer then please just use a school book to complete the tasks.

TOUR of NZ Days 1-3 – Auckland

READING – I am Alice

Today you are going to read this article about a large piece of equipment that was used in Auckland as they worked on one of their motorways. CLICK HERE for your reading.

Following this story your reading task is to select 3 words from the glossary and put them into a sentence.

WRITING – Daily Diary

Your task today is to do some research about activities you could do in Auckland while you are there for the first 3 days of your tour. We would pick one for each day. Dont worry about your budget. Be creative.
Check out this resource to help CLICK HERE

After your research, you must write a short diary entry for each of your three days in Auckland. We suggest 3 or 4 sentences each day. If you want to add some photographs that would look great. Below is an example;

Today our family went up the Sky Tower. The Sky Tower is in the middle of Auckland city. While in the site we had a picnic lunch down at the Viaduct Harbour. In the afternoon we walked around the Auckland Domain.

Today your starting activity is to play this game for 10 minutes – CLICK HERE

Auckland’s population is 1,600,000. If it increases by 5 per cent every 10 years what will the population be in 2030?

23 + 45 = 2.3 + 4.5 = 2.06 + 1.29 = 3.89 + 3.2 =

Alice can travel 8cm in 1 minute. How far can the machine travel in ten minutes? In one hour? In one day? Show your working.
Extra – A scientist made a new machine that was 10% faster than Alice. What are the new distances it could travel in ten minutes, one hour and a day?

A LITTLE EXTRA – Bingo Board of Awesomeness

We have developed a little resource at Kiwi Kids to keep your learning at home. Look at the collection of activities below. Today look at the board and select at least one that you could complete. Let us know in the comments below which one you enjoyed. CLICK HERE for more details.
