# Kiwi Kids News Daily – 11th May

Today is Monday the 11th May.

In our learning today we are going to continue our two-week-long piece of work around our amazing country. We are creating a Tour of Aotearoa. Watch the video below and then read the instructions.

Our task over the next 5 days is to complete our Tour of New Zealand. Each day we are going to visit a new town or city in the South Island. Your learning tasks (reading, writing and maths) will relate to that place or region.

As we work through the tasks below you will need to add where we go on your Map of New Zealand. We have created a booklet that you can print off and add to daily (CLICK HERE). If you don’t have a printer then please just use a school book to complete the tasks.

# READING – Harwoods Hole

Following this story, your reading task is to select 3 words from the glossary and put them into a sentence.

# WRITING – Daily Diary

Your task today is to do some research about activities you could do in Nelson while you are there for 2 days. We would pick one for each day. Don’t worry about your budget. Be creative and add some pictures.

After your research, you must write a short diary entry for each of your 2 days in Nelson. We suggest 3 or 4 sentences each day. If you want to add some photographs that would look great. Below is an example;

Today our family went up the Sky Tower. The Sky Tower is in the middle of Auckland city. While in the site we had a picnic lunch down at the Viaduct Harbour. In the afternoon we walked around the Auckland Domain.

# MATHS

WARM UP
Today your starting activity is to play this game for 10 minutes – CLICK HERE

NUMBER SKILLS
While in Nelson we went on the Able Tasman Walk. Research and find out how far we would have walked if we completed this walk. If we averaged 3km per hour how many hours of walking would we have completed?

21 + 78 = 2.6 + 3.20 = 2.06 + 1.71 = 3.89 – 3.4 =

PROBLEM-SOLVING

Henry wants to make a rectangular chicken run at the back of the house.

He buys 12 metres of fencing wire.

What is the largest area run that he can make for his chickens?

What if Henry has 60 metres of fencing?
