Prime Minister John Key has been given a baby elephant by the country of Sri Lanka.
The New Zealand Prime Minister was given the gift as part of an agreement with Auckland Zoo.
The new elephant is a five-year-old female Nandi. She was gifted by Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena to Mr Key during a ceremony in Colombo.
It is the second elephant given to New Zealand by Sri Lanka. An eight-year-old female, Anjalee, was flown to Auckland Zoo in June.
Mr Key said the second elephant would be a great drawcard and, in return, the zoo would help Sri Lanka manage its elephant population and help train wildlife workers.
The Auckland Zoo now has 3 elephants. They also have a 33-year-old female, named Burma, who was born in Myanmar.
