Jeffcoat wins backstroke gold medal

New Zealand swimmer Andrew Jeffcoat has a won gold in the 50 metres backstroke at the Commonwealth Games.

The 23-year-old clocked a personal best and national record of 24.65 seconds. He beat South Africa’s Pieter Coetze at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Birmingham.

The result was redemption for Jeffcoat who came 4th in the 100m event.
