Italy has won the 2021 European Football Championship at Wembley.

The Italians were too strong for England, winning a penalty shoot out 3-2. Both teams finished 1-1, after full time and then extra time.

England were hoping to end their 55-year wait for a major trophy. Luke Shaw gave England the perfect start to the game, driving the ball into the net at the far post after just 2 minutes.

Italy, unbeaten in 33 matches before this final, slowly edged their way back into the game. They then drew level in the 67th minute when Leonardo Bonucci pounced following a corner kick.

England missed three of their five penalties. Marcus Rashford hit the post, while Jadon Sancho and teenager Bukayo Saka had their shots saved by the Italian goalkeeper. Harry Kane and Harry Maguire were on target for England.
