Cyber security organisation Netsafe has released information highlighting that nearly $4.5 million has been lost by New Zealanders to internet scammers over the past year.
This was 4 times the amount of 2012 with a total of  562 reports lodged to police. One person lost $100,000 to scammers in one of the more serious cases.
Most of the scams involve people giving away money before information is given out.
Netsafe highlighted that this was a good time to remind people to watch who you give out personal details to online and never pay unexpected bills or people online.
