Indycar racer Sage Karam has won the first race of the virtual INDYCAR iRacing Challenge.

He won the American Red Cross Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International, after starting from pole position.

Karam led for 43 of the 45 laps and beat Felix Rosenqvist by 3.6174 seconds. Will Power finished third.

The INDYCAR iRacing Challenge is a series of 6 online races. They have been developed because of the postponement of races due to coronavirus.

Karam is one of the most experienced iRacing drivers in this field. He has been working at home on his virtual races, practising on his simulator.

Kiwi Scott McLaughlin was completing his first Indycar race. He was strong, finishing fourth.

Future events will be held weekly, each Saturday, through to the 2nd May.
