An Australian swimming club has lost its mascot – a giant inflatable rubber duck.

Daphne the duck is the Cockburn Masters Swimming Club mascot for its events.

Just before the club’s Coogee Beach jetty to jetty swim the duck was caught by a gust of wind and took to the skies.

Roughly the size of a small caravan and with a price tag of AU$900 (NZ$960).

Sightings of Daphne have been reported off the coast, including one by a group of fishermen 15km west of Rottnest Island.

There’s even rumours she’s made it 400km north of Coogee Beach.

  1. Rip Such a large duck with a big heart, Gone to waste on a single day, What a big thing to lose for a big day for a great event, what a tragedy. This may compete with our beloved Constable Elliot, may they both be loved in heroic heaven with My Dear, shoe.
