The HouseParty App has announce that it will fully shut it down in October

Houseparty, a video chat app, surged in popularity when Covid-19 lockdowns were first imposed last year.

The app allows people to virtually drop in to video chatrooms with friends. It reported having over 50million sign ups in one month, when it was at its most popular.

Houseparty is owned by the same company that makes Fortnite and it was integrated into the smash-hit game last year, allowing users to hold video chats while playing.

Houseparty’s owner, Epic Games, said it could no longer “give the app or our community the attention that it deserves”.
