Retired couple, Michael and Phyllis Thoms, have placed their house on sale at auction, with a reserve of $1!!
The Thoms’ 3 bedroom house is in the Christchurch ‘red zone’ and was damaged in the quakes. Since the quakes, the couple have lost $400,000 on the house and now just want out.
All that the couple want from the sale is enough money to visit their family in the UK.
Many believe that the couple deserve to receive something good, as they have always given to others.
They both did a lot of youth work in their younger years and they are the first to help others in need.
Since the earthquake, Michael and Phyllis have lost 4 close family members, their grandson has been diagnosed with leukaemia and their granddaughter has undergone 4 operations for her heart condition.
Harcourt’s Grenadier Real Estate believe that the couple deserve something back after their years of work and kindness.
The agent doesn’t believe the property will raise much money, but the company has promised to add to whatever money is made to pay for return flights to the UK for the couple.
