Hollywood celebrates Oscars

Yesterday, Monday 3rd of March, 2014 (NZ time) marked the celebration of the 86th annual Oscars.

Hosted this year by Ellen DeGeneres, the Oscars welcomed 700 lucky fans into the fan bleacher seats to watch the arrival of the stars.

Last year an estimated 40.3 million people watched the Oscars in the United States alone, adding to its name as the biggest night in Hollywood.

Before the ceremony the celebrities graced the red carpet, despite the rain, a 150m walk before their fans and photographers.

The Oscars present academy awards for Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Actor in a supporting role and Best Actress in a supporting role.

Other awards are presented for cinematography (2014 Winner – Gravity), Costume Design (2014 Winner – The Great Gatsby), Music, Directing, Animated Film, Short Film, Best Screenplay, and many more.
