A grandfather has won around $250,000 NZD after his grandson made his debut for the  Wales football team last weekend.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Wilson played as a substitute against Belgium in the weekend, becoming Wales’ youngest ever senior player.

His Grandfather Peter Edwards, 62, was doubly excited by the fact his grandson was playing international football.

Peter Edwards had put $50 down as a bet, when his grandchild was 18 months old, that  he would one day play soccer for Wales.

Wilson came on in the 85th minute of the game.

Peter Edwards now intends to take an early retirement.
