The New Zealand government has announced it will replace the decile system for schools.
The decile system will be replaced with a ‘Risk Index’.
The new system will be based on targeted funding to better support disadvantaged children, says Education Minister Nikki Kaye.
The Index would better reflect the needs of children, rather than characteristics of the school’s neighbourhood.
Ms Kaye said no school, early learning service or ngā kōhanga reo would have their funding cut as a result of the change in system.
The Risk Index is likely to take effect from 2019 or 2020.
