The Government has decided not to ban rodeos in New Zealand.
A recent report from the Animal Law Association found rodeos were illegal and must be banned.
The report examined the Rodeo Code of Welfare and concluded it did not meet the standards set out in the Animal Welfare Act. A key part of the report said that calf roping, in particular, was a clear breach of the Act.
However, Associate Minister for Agriculture Meka Whaitiri said in a speech yesterday that she said she would “not consider a ban on rodeos”.
New Zealand Rodeo Cowboys Association spokesperson Michael Laws said the report was just another stunt by animal welfare activists who are jealous of the growing national support for rodeos.

  1. in my opinion, rodeos should be banned. before the rodeo bulls and calves are starved so they are angry and more likely to charge at the horse and rider. this is extreme mistreatment of animals. if the new Zealand government thin this is acceptable, they will soon get a crude awakening.

  2. id be soo scared if I was riding the wild animals! I don’t think they should keep rodeos going but I understand that this could be everything in someone’s life, maybe even carer!
Just as bad as animal testing.
