The government has announced the adult minimum wage will increase to $14.25 an hour.

The current adult minimum wage rate is $13.75 an hour.
The move was announced by Labour Minister Simon Bridges and will come into effect on 1 April 2014.
Prime Minister John Key said the decision was carefully considered as a big increase in minimum wage would result in a number of job losses.
