Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed the traffic light system for New Zealand and what level regions will start with.
Auckland and Northland will be red, along with Taupō, Rotorua Lakes, Kawerau, Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki, Gisborne, Wairoa, Rangitīkei, Whanganui and Ruapehu districts.
All other regions in New Zealand will start on orange when the new system starts on Friday.
She also pointed out the it is more than likely no areas of New Zealand will be in green over Summer.
During her talk Ardern said that New Zealand was in a strong position to move forward to the new system which would replace sudden lockdowns.
At orange there will be no limits on gatherings if vaccine passes are used. At red, it will most likely feel like the level 2 we are familiar with.
Cabinet will review these settings and provide an update on 13 December and will continue on a fortnightly basis. Below is a map of the current alert levels in the North Island. All of the South Island is orange.
