You may have heard about the dress that has gone viral on the internet as people all over the world debate whether it is gold and white or black and blue. Although those a very different colours, many people swear it is gold and white while others are positive that it is blue and black….so what’s the truth?
No matter what colour you see, you’re not wrong – the dress is both colours depending on who and where you are. It is believed that the colour of the dress depends on the brightness of the room and of the background the dress is printed on.
There are also 2 different kinds of cells in your eyes that allow the brain to see colours. Rods are more sensitive to light but not colour while cones are less sensitive to light but more to colour. Having more rods than cones is what leads to colour blindness.
Having more of one or the other will lead you to see the dress as white and gold or blue and black – it all depends on how your brain decides to interpret the colour. So what colour do you see?
